Celebrating 102 years of serving Wichita and beyond!
July 1st 2023 marks six exciting anniversaries for Tallgrass Eyecare LLC. First we are celebrating 6 years as the incorporated Tallgrass Eyecare LLC at 22nd and Rock road and we are celebrating 104 years serving Wichita and beyond. Thought to be the oldest continuous practice of optometry in Kansas, the practice roots go back to 1919 when Dr. Dean S. Truex moved his practice of optometry to Wichita. Establishing Truex Optical July 1st, 1919, Dr. Truex set the precedent of providing Quality Eyecare with the latest innovations in technology which Dr. Janasek continues to provide today. Though Dr. Truex set up Truex Optical in Wichita, his patients came from Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado, just as Dr. Janasek’s patients travel from all over the world including at least 13 countries, 22 states, 1/3 of the counties in Kansas and of course Wichita. In celebration we invite our patients to share their stories with us of their time with the practice. We do know we have patients that saw Dr. Ise back in the 50’s and are always glad to hear the stories they tell. As we celebrate this next year the blessings God has provided, we will have a commemorative item for you when you visit. Also, watch in September as we celebrate Lucy’s 37 years of service!

Dr. Jeffery Janasek, OD
A graduate from Pittsburg State University, Dr. Janasek received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology in 1988. While attending PSU, he met his wife Cindy and they were married before moving out west for Optometry School. In May 1992 Dr. Janasek graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry and by September 1992 he had joined the practice. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Kansas Optometric Association, the Wichita Optometric Society and the Eyecare Council. Locally Dr. Janasek is known as the “cow eye guy” as he has volunteered since 1992 helping thousands of 3rd to 5th grade students dissect cow eyes in Science classrooms across Wichita and the surrounding communities. He has also been active with his two sons in Boy Scouts of America, both of which have earned their Eagle Rank. Serving as a scout leader for 15 years, he has attended all three of the BSA High Adventure bases with his sons and was awarded the Silver Beaver award (the highest award a local Boy Scout Council can give). He is a member of Central Christian Church.

Staff members at Tallgrass Eyecare are well trained in their field of expertise. With each piece of new equipment onsite training is provided. Monthly office meetings with onsite training throughout the year creates an office culture designed for excellent patient care and personalized service.
